Carlos José Pérez Sámano   

is a poet, narrator, and librettist born in Mexico. He has published four books in Mexico and two in the United States, and his work has been featured in anthologies around the world.

He holds an MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in Publishing from Rosemont College.

His first and unpublished novel, Echo, was the first runner-up for the Cai Emmons Fiction Prize by Red Hen Press.

He received the Everyday Genius Award from I Belong Philly and the Da Vinci Art Alliance, and was named the Inaugural Artist in Residence at the Penn Museum. The following year, he was recognized as the Author of the Year by the Latin American Book Fair in Philadelphia.

After years of research, he found the grave of the Mexican poet Gilberto Owen.

His first opera, Hotel Moctezuma, won the 2025 Fedora Audience Award.
